Come rain or shine, they’re out on the roads ensuring every delivery gets where it needs to be, safely and on time. We caught up with one of our HGV drivers, James, to hear more about his role and what he enjoys most about being part of the Tokamak team.

Personal Insights
What is your role and key responsibilities at Tokamak?
Class 1 HGV Driver. Key responsibilities for an HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) container driver include safely operating and transporting containers, performing vehicle checks, ensuring loads are secured, planning routes, and maintaining accurate records. They also need to comply with traffic laws, communicate with dispatchers, and may assist with loading and unloading.
How did you get into HGV driving?
I started in this role because I've always had an interest in logistics, engineering, and the automotive industry.
On The Job
What do you enjoy most about being an HGV driver?
The freedom of the open road.
What does a great day at work look like for you?
The days are what you make them, but my best days are when I get the long drives.
What is the most unusual freight you have transported?
I have had endless amounts of interesting jobs but the most unusual is moving a classic Bentley and plant machinery.
What has been your most memorable moment at Tokamak?
Taylor Swift concert job.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced since joining the team?
The long hours can be wearing sometimes.

What sets Tokamak apart from other logistics companies?
The Tokamak team or 'Tokamak Family' as I like to call them of drivers and office staff go above and beyond always to make working conditions great along with incredible communication, this positive attitude gets passed down to our customers as a result.
How does the team support one another, even when they are on the road?
The bond between the drivers and office staff is strong, and the drivers are trusted to make their own decisions. Clear communication is key and provides a great working environment. Drivers laughing together and helping each other on a daily basis.

Do you have any driving rituals or road trip habits?
Radio 2 on and long conversations with Tokamak Driver, Graham. We also occasionally participate in karaoke!
